What a wonderful phrase! The iconic song “Hakuna Matata” has been immortalised as a Loungefly backpack, and it ain’t no passing craze!
When young Simba is convinced by his uncle Scar to run away from the Pride Lands, he runs until Timon and Pumbaa find him collapsed from heat exhaustion. After cooling him off and learning his story, the duo decide to raise the young lion in their lifestyle, hakuna matata, which acts as the introduction to the iconic song performed thereafter. The song symbolises both a life lesson and a montage, as we see Simba grow from cub to fully-grown lion under the care of the meerkat and warthog.
Inspired by the tropical oasis home of Timon and Pumbaa, this design features lush ferns and flowers adorning a beautiful green palette. Rafiki can be seen on the front pocket amongst the foliage, while Zazu flies above. The bag’s zipper charm is made in the shape of a monstera deliciosa - a plant that can grow sweet fruit in the right conditions. At the front and center of the backpack, Simba, Pumbaa and Timon are walking in a line, just like the log-crossing scene that sees Simba grow into an adult. On the back, as green linework, you’ll see Simba having taken his place as king as he stands atop Pride Rock.
